Introduction presented by co-founder, Carole Oliver on 10 April 1989.
“As a woman running my own business on my own, I found I had no-one to discuss problems with, no-one to bounce ideas off and no-one to create opportunities with. I felt very insular and, at times, lonely: – Who could I ask about the best way to promote myself? How should I advertise? Would it be cost-effective? How should I run the administration, the accounts? There were endless questions and no one to discuss them with.
I needed to be able to meet other women so we could share experiences, swap ideas and create new business opportunities.
A woman working in a vacuum cannot grow, but if several women got together the result would be synergy – that is, the whole would be greater than the sum of the parts.
We know that men have their clubs and Old Boy Networks and they use them to advance their business interests. Its time women took advantage of social networking. The Group has been formed to allow them to do just that – to meet socially and to network with other like-minded women.”
Objectives behind the formation of the BusinessWomen’s Group.
(Agreed at the first meeting of the group held on 10/4/89 at the Crest Hotel, High Wycombe, Bucks).
- To meet like-minded women in informal surroundings and on a regular basis.
- To network with local businesswomen.
- To establish a forum for sharing opportunities, problems and solutions.
- To hear from selected “Speakers” on topics of direct relevance and interest to women in business.
